Project Overview

Our project aims to enhance postoperative care in cancer patients undergoing ambulatory surgery through a personalized remote symptom monitoring system, called Recovery Tracker. The tool uses PROMs to track daily postoperative symptoms for 10 days, enabling timely intervention and reducing patient and caregiver burden. The multidisciplinary team is led by Jennifer Cracchiolo, MD, and includes Sigrid Carlsson, MD, PhD. Key findings from a study recently published in JAMA Surgery indicate that the Recovery Tracker facilitates detailed symptom tracking, improves patient education, sets recovery expectations, and enhances clinical care.

Learning Health Network Experience

Attending the monthly Learning Health Network meeting and the kick-off in-person meeting has been instrumental in advancing our project. It has provided us with the unique opportunity to learn from other teams who are tackling similar challenges.

Additionally, resources such as the Proteus Practice Guide have been invaluable in shaping our approach, providing us with comprehensive frameworks and expert insights that have significantly enhanced our methodologies. We’ve utilized resources from PROTEUS and incorporated best practices and structured methodologies outlined in the PROTEUS Practice Guide, including for our recent project-related publication in JAMA Surgery as well as project development strategies for subsequent grant proposals in the PRO space.
