Here you can learn more about the “Real-World ePROs in Cancer Patients to Inform Consensus Alert Threshold Guidelines and Escalation Algorithms,” which is part of the PROTEUS Learning Health Network. The Learning Health Network is focused on improving the use of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in oncology clinical practice. Also, you can read about the valuable insights that have emerged from their participation in the Learning Health Network.

Project Overview
We aim to improve the management of side effects in cancer patients undergoing high-risk treatments like systemic chemotherapy through the sustainable use of Electronic Patient Reported Outcomes (ePROs). When integrated into clinical practice, ePROs can improve quality of life, reduce unnecessary healthcare visits, and potentially increase survival rates. However, challenges such as technological limitations, costs, and the need for clinical workflow integration have hindered widespread adoption. We are conducting a modified Delphi survey to determine when and how patients should be triaged in an ePRO program, and we are creating patient education materials to manage mild symptoms efficiently, thereby expanding safe and effective ePRO utilization in cancer care.
Learning Health Network Experience
Participation in the Learning Health Network has catalyzed our progress by allowing us to problem solve with other health systems, and learn from their experience. For example, hearing how other teams were using EHR-integrated ePRO systems was helpful in determining how to move forward with our ePRO solution.
