PROMs Equity Project

While evidence supports the potential effectiveness of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in practice, there is a need for unique resources and support to promote PRO use in the context of caring for vulnerable and underserved populations in the United States.

To identify and address these needs, the PROTEUS Consortium formed an Advisory Group. The Advisory Group offered an opportunity for bidirectional information exchange to:

  • Improve our understanding of the facilitators of and barriers to implementing routine PRO assessments in vulnerable and underserved populations; and
  • Build capacity for PRO implementation to improve care for cancer patients who are vulnerable or underserved.

Advisory Group Meeting Outcomes

The Advisory Group identified four key barriers to implementing PROs in vulnerable and underserved populations and four categories of solutions to address these barriers. The categories of solutions included: Education and Engagement; Research; Information Technology or Technological Resources; and Incentives, Mandates, and Marketing.

An article published in The Patient presents the outcomes from the Advisory Group.
